Core Metal 3D Printing Materials

The full range of metal 3D printing materials includes stainless steels, tool steels, titanium alloys, aluminium alloys, nickel-based superalloys, cobalt-chrome, copper, and even precious metals such as gold, silver, and platinum. These materials differ in strength, corrosion resistance, heat tolerance, biocompatibility, and cost, making each suitable for specific industrial applications.

1. Stainless Steels

Widely used due to their strength, corrosion resistance, and affordability. Common grades include 316L and 17-4 PH, used in tooling, medical hardware, and industrial components.

2. Tool Steels

Engineered for extreme durability and wear resistance. Includes A2, D2, H13, and high-performance variants like Printdur HCT, ideal for moulds, dies, and high-stress industrial parts.

3. Titanium Alloys

Known for high strength-to-weight ratio and biocompatibility. Common types: Ti-6Al-4V (Ti-64) and Commercially Pure Titanium (CP Ti). Used in aerospace, medical implants, and high-performance engineering.

4. Aluminium Alloys

Lightweight, conductive, and corrosion-resistant. Popular alloy: AlSi10Mg, used in automotive, aerospace, and electronics.

5. Nickel-Based Superalloys (Inconel)

Exceptional heat and corrosion resistance. Common grades: Inconel 718 and Inconel 625, used in turbines, rocket engines, and high-temperature industrial systems.

6. Cobalt-Chrome (Co-Cr)

Combines wear resistance with biocompatibility. Used in dental prosthetics, surgical implants, and components exposed to friction or harsh environments.

7. Copper & Copper Alloys

Excellent thermal and electrical conductivity. Ideal for heat exchangers, electrical components, and cooling systems.

8. Precious Metals

Includes gold, silver, and platinum. Used in jewellery, luxury goods, and specialised electronics.

9. Niobium

High melting point and superconducting properties. Used in aerospace and defence for extreme-condition components.
